Helldivers 2 LAS-5 Scythe Gameplay Guide: Smart Positioning and Heat Efficiency

Using the LAS-5 Scythe well comes down to discipline. It’s not about reaction speed or aggressive pushes—it’s about staying in control, even when things get messy.

Positioning is where everything starts. If you’re too close, the weapon struggles. If you’re too far, you risk losing accuracy. There’s a sweet spot where you can track targets comfortably while still having room to move. Finding that distance makes a noticeable difference.

You’ll also want to think about angles. Fighting from the open isn’t always ideal. Small adjustments—like shifting to the side or taking a slightly elevated position—can make it easier to hold your beam on a target without interruption.

Heat efficiency is the next piece. A lot of players burn themselves out by holding the trigger too long. It feels natural to commit, especially when you’re close to finishing an enemy, but that’s usually when mistakes happen.

Instead, keep your firing controlled. Short bursts, small pauses, then back in again. It keeps your weapon available and prevents those awkward moments where you’re stuck waiting for a cooldown.

Enemy behaviour plays a role too. Predictable targets are easy to handle—you can track them and maintain steady damage. Unpredictable ones force you to adjust, and that’s where patience comes in. Don’t chase them aggressively; let them move into your line instead.

Movement should be purposeful. Running constantly might feel safer, but it actually reduces your effectiveness. Every time you move, your beam becomes harder to control. It’s better to move with intent, stop briefly, deal damage, then reposition again.

For larger encounters, think in phases. Start by thinning out weaker enemies, then focus on priority targets. Trying to handle everything at once usually leads to overheating or poor positioning.

There’s a rhythm to it that develops over time. Engage, control, disengage, reset. It’s simple, but it works.

Once you get comfortable with that flow, the Scythe stops feeling situational and starts feeling dependable. It’s not about dominating every fight—it’s about staying effective in all of them.
